7 Ways I Know I’m in Atlanta and not Cincinnati

This transition to Atlanta has been fun but I’m still trying to get adjust to the culture. So I’ve come up with 7 ways I know I’m in Atlanta and not Cincinnati.

  1. People not only say hello when they first meet you in Atlanta but invite you over to their house, offer to buy you lunch, and maybe watch your kids while you take your wife on a date.
  2. I see magnolia trees all over the place in Atlanta. My wife points out the really big ones.
  3. I haven’t see a SkyLine Chili restaurant or a Graeter’s Ice Creme shop yet. I hear they tried once but it didn’t take. You can find both at Kroger though and that makes me happy.
  4. In Atlanta, you have to pick if you are going to root for Georgia or Georgia Tech and it is very apparent which side you are on. If I have to pick I’m going SEC every time but could really care less. We drive a red car so I guess it works.
  5. In Cincinnati people ask if you live on the east side or the west side. In Atlanta, they ask if you live in the circle or outside the circle. FYI, I live outside the circle and that makes me less cool to all the creative people in Atlanta.
  6. I don’t pass 5 Catholic churches going to the office everyday in Atlanta. I do pass 50 churches though.
  7. Google Maps seems to be wrong most times in Atlanta. I get lost all the time using the address given.  Which means it takes me twice as long because the roads are as bad as people say they are.

So what have I missed so far?

What you didn’t hear me? *Bonus: No one says “please” when they can’t hear you either in Atlanta

You forgot one of the most obvious. Every other street contains the word “Peachtree.”

Nice catch Kenny. Believe it or not though, I don’t have to drive on a PeachTree road once getting to work or going to church. They are all “something” bridge road. You are correct though there are way to many PeachTree roads around here.

Just to clarify, it's “Inside the PERIMETER” (ITP) or “Outside the PERIMETER” (OTP)….not the circle.

People like to say that it's uncool to live OTP, but I would rather be wise than cool. :)

Thanks for the clarification. I live outside the perimeter. See I’m not even cool enough to know the terms yet. I’m in Atlanta and not Cincinnati.
