@yancynotnancy does it again.

Finding great music for kids that doesn’t drive mom, dad or even children’s pastor crazy can be hard to find. The market seems to be overly saturated with music that sounds kiddie and therefore hokey. If you’re looking for some new music that will provide a positive alternative and do it all in a fresh, fun way that both kids and adults will love then be sure to check out Little Praise Party by Yancy and friends.

Yancy normally offers up her musical stylings to the preteen and elementary audience but Little Praise Party is for a younger, preschool aged audience. Last month, a new collection of songs was released titled “Happy Day Everyday”. It’s available on both CD and DVD. The DVD is what gets really fun. The songs are brought to life with animated music videos that your preschool kids will love and be entertained by. You’ll find lots of singalong fun including songs to celebrate some of the most special days of the year including Valentine’s, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Birthdays. Plus, a song about missions to encourage us to “Go into all the world”. Whether at home, church or in the family minivan these songs will help you and your kids to have a praise party!

The are two DVD options. Once that’s for homes that’s perfect for the living room or minivan. The other is geared for churches packed with additional soundtrack versions and quicktime movie/mpeg files to import into your presentation software. You can download the music on iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/happy-day-everyday/id494253564 or purchase the CD and DVD options at http://yancynotnancy.com/store/ministry-resources/#left_column I promise you’ll soon become a fan of these songs and their melodies but even more the message and truth they share. Music is a great way for even the youngest members of the family to learn about God’s love and plan for them. These songs are filled with scriptures and BIblical truths that will inspire worship in all generations. Take a few minutes today to look and listen. And while you’re there look around at Yancy’s other Little Praise Party release and projects for preteens.

I’m glad that there is some great music out there that my family can listen to together.

Being on the radio is fun. Being on TV is a whole different situation. Radio is easy. TV takes a lot more effort. Which would I rather do? Both. Anytime I have the opportunity to talk on stage, on the radio, or on TV I am there. I am just grateful that I have the chance to do all three.

Here is the interview:

Thanks to Fox 31 again. It was a blast.

Video from Tru Tv depicts what happens when a tow truck driver starts to pull away with their van. Here is the video but be warned, the end will shock you a bit:

Don’t read this as me judging because I’m not. I’m saying that I have not always been above reproach and make mistakes all the time. If you and I were video taped 24/7 then we would see that we are all hypocrites but we do have to be carful because if we say that we are Christ-followers then we are representing Christ. We are not Jesus but I think we can do better at being his representatives.

James 3:10 says, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.”

Today’s post is from Matt Morris of Lifeway. He helps run the Digital Church division there. Enjoy the post.

Mobile technology is everywhere you turn. But is the church utilizing technology to fulfill the mission and ministry God has called it to?

Connecting to your church and community should involve a website for your church, its ministries and the mission of the church. But it shouldn’t stop there. Technology allows the church to broaden its reach. We now have tools like YapTap, which integrates different forms of communication such as Twitter, Facebook, texting and e-mails and allows you to send messages to your members. Another great tool for churches is mobile apps. Over the past year or so, the price of a custom app has become more affordable, affording the opportunity for smaller churches to get in the game. Any app worth its weight in gold will allow you to stream video and audio of your service through the app, allow members to post prayer requests, have an event calendar, ministry pages for youth, children and adults, and integrate social media. You need to meet your members where they are, and that is through the use of mobile technology.

Growing your church is easier said than done. We must understand more about God and His expectations of His people. Churches that are effective at reaching and retaining people are most often times clear about their purpose. With the internet, mobile apps, and Facebook, many new people to your community may actually be looking for you. Make sure you put your best foot forward. Meet the needs of the community. Technology doesn’t grow your church; it merely enhances your presence in the community.

We all know that we were called to be servants. Make sure you are leading the ministries inside of your church and continually seeking other ministry opportunities. Use your spiritual gifts, skills and passions to Glorify God. Assimilate members into the fiber of the church. Fellowship Technologies in Irving, TX has a phenomenal assimilation tool within their church management software. It allows the church staff to use the spiritual gifts of the congregation to better serve the needs of the church. Imagine a church where everyone is serving in some capacity, one where no one is idle. That’s the kind of church Christ calls us to be.

Lastly, we must go. Move outside of the church and into the community and the world. We need to be reproducers. It’s part of our DNA as a church. It’ll be uncomfortable at first, but you’ll experience first-hand the difference Christ can make through you and your church. When you’re in Haiti on a mission trip, stream the Sunday morning services from your church on your smart phone and have a translator relay the sermon to the Haitians in attendance. Download the YouVersion Bible app and let others in foreign countries read the Bible in their native tongue. Download the WORDsearch app and study commentaries, parallel scriptures and the meaning of different words to be a better witness, pastor and teacher.

The tools are endless. Make the most of the technology. Leverage it as you lead your church.

Matt Morris leads the Digital Church initiative for LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, TN. Digital Church is a collection of web-based resources and services that assists churches in efficiently and effectively managing growth within their church, congregation and community. Digital Church endorses select, top-tier solutions in the cloud to help both churches and ministries reach people for Christ.

Today’s post is from @bsimpson. If you aren’t following him you should.

Early in my ministry I served a rural church with a small youth group. Each week I was responsible for preparing a lesson that would help teenagers understand the Christian life. For several weeks, I arrived at church with a commentary on Romans and offered a feeble message. The students were obviously bored, I was confused, and the result was disastrous. I was not communicating effectively to the next generation. I had a lot to learn.

Over the years I have continued to lead and teach, and I think I’ve gotten better, though that is ultimately for my students to decide! Here are five things I have learned about effective communication to the next generation:

Thoughtfully prepare.

Effective communication requires that you work prior to the moment you deliver your message. Don’t wing it. Carefully write down and rehearse what you plan to say. Have coffee or lunch with a wise friend and present your outline. Ask them if it makes sense. If not, go back to the drawing board. Most audiences can quickly discern the amount of energy you have put toward preparation. If they sense you are not prepared, you will lose them.

Know your audience.

If you are speaking to children, youth, or adults, ask a lot of questions. Spend time talking with people who are part of the church, community, or age group that you will speak to. The more you listen, the better you will communicate. Get out of your office and live among the people.

Use appropriate, accessible, and authentic illustrations.

After spending time in study, you may have a number of earth-shattering insights. Before unloading these new discoveries, slow down. Think about each point, and consider how you can help people understand what you are presenting with appropriate, accessible, and authentic illustrations.

Anticipate problems, questions, and objections and address them.

Children and youth are accustomed to learning environments where questions are encouraged. If something is unclear, controversial, or challenging, questions arise. Anticipating possible problems, questions, and objections and addressing them proactively invites dialogue, indicates that you take such concerns seriously, and adds weight to your presentation.

Once you’ve crafted your message, trust the Holy Spirit and rest in Jesus Christ.

Oftentimes, our desire to communicate effectively is coupled with a deep-seated belief that success hinges on us. We believe that we are solely responsible for the results, and what follows is persistent anxiety. While we do have a responsibility, we don’t do our work alone. God speaks through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. Even when you communicate a message that falls flat, it is quite possible for God to transform and change your hearers.

Today’s post is brought to you by @jen_funderburke

If you serve in ministry it is likely that you have received extensive training in sharing the gospel. You could likely make a long list of the methods, plans, and acronyms that you have memorized. However, when it comes to sharing the gospel with the little people in your own house, it’s a whole new ball game.

The greatest difference is that all of those plans are primarily designed for that one gospel conversation that you will have once with an individual. But in your home, with your kids, sharing the gospel will not and should not be a one time conversation. You will have hundreds of opportunities to share truth.

Here are five thoughts to keep in mind as you seek to share the gospel with your own kids:

1. Pray continually - You already know this, but this is a pretty big deal. Lots of parents really stress about when their child will accept Christ or that they will “mess up” in sharing the gospel. The reality is that we have absolutely no control, which I think we truly know. But that lack of control stresses us out even more. We can pray. We can pray for God to give our babies open hearts and ears. We can pray for clarity as we teach them. We can thank The Holy Spirit that He makes perfect our weaknesses.

2. Start early - The gospel can be shared with our kids as soon as they start talking. As soon as they begin to understand “bad”, teach that the bad things we do are called sin and sin is yucky, but Jesus makes it better. As soon as they begin to understand time outs or spankings, we can start talking about how Jesus took our punishment. May 2 Timothy 3:15 be true of our kids, “from infancy you knew the Scriptures….”

3. Use age appropriate language. Your explanations of the gospel will grow as your child grows. Don’t use seminary language with your preschooler and don’t use baby talk with big kids. If you use “churchy” words, explain them clearly. Look for ways to best express the gospel with clarity to your kids exactly where they are.

4. Make it a normal topic of conversation. Awkwardness comes in when we have to talk about something we aren’t used to discussing. Don’t save Jesus and the gospel for bedtime prayers or Sunday mornings. Take advantage of “God moments”, but also create intentional conversations. The Jesus Storybook Bible is one of many awesome resources for beginning conversations.

5. Don’t blow off tough questions. Wow, the things kids can ask. And sometimes we don’t answer because we are in a rush or because we just don’t know how. Sometimes a question is just one of many, but sometimes it is a sign of God working in little hearts and it is part of the process of the pieces coming together. Answer honestly, don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know, and always point them back to Jesus.

Thanks Jenny for your great thoughts.
