Ministry Monday: Orange Conference Posts, What happened?

Written by  //  May 3, 2010  //  Ministry, Technology  //  4 Comments

Last week I wrote a little post that said “Warning: Oranges Ahead“. Then as you can see I didn’t send out one blog post from the Orange Conference that happened last week.  It’s not because the Orange Conference wasn’t good because it was great.  It’s not because I didn’t sit in any sessions because I did sit in on some but not all of them.

So why didn’t I write much last week?  The answer to this is 2 fold. First I was so interested in meeting as many people as possible that it took away from me sitting down and taking the time to write.  Second there was a huge amount of buzz about R04R, my new venture into mobile apps for churches, ministries, publishing companies, and non-profits.  I was amazed by how excited people got when they heard that we are trying to get as much faith based content onto their phones as possible.  Yes this was a little reassuring but also goes to the fact that we have a lot of work to do.

Did I accomplish my goals of meeting people?  You better believe it and I am grateful for all of those that introduced themselves to me as well.  The days flew by and I wish I had more time to see what God is doing in your life.  This is why I can’t wait to get to heaven.  We won’t have to worry about this little thing called time.

Did R04R accomplish what it was hoping to do?  A resounding Yes is in order.  R04R is now open for business and churches are signing up to get their own iPhone and Android apps.  Publishing companies are partnering with us and we are excited to say that some great material will hit your phone before the year ends.  Ministries are wanting to utilize apps as well and are starting to explore their options. This gets me jazzed beyond belief.

Now if you are interested in all of the things that went on at the Orange Conference and want to read all of the insights, inspirations, and quotes then here is a list of bloggers that did a much better job than I did by covering the event.  There is a lot of great writing below. Enjoy their work because I know that I am.

    Matt,

Tried to get this question answered at Orange, but no such luck. I can't find the Orange app in the android marketplace. Is it only for Droid? (I'm using an HTC Hero running Android 1.6)

    Thanks!

    Ryan,

You have to be running Adroid 2.0 or later. Sorry the Hero won't do that yet. They should update it in the near future though so that it will.

Finally I put the connection together with you and the RO4R folks. Your booth amused me greatly. Every time I walked past it looked like all of your folks were engaged on their laptops or their i-phones or whatever. It amused me that this booth to encourage social networking had no-one in it networking. I hope you guys got some great contacts and that this venture takes off – just remember to tell each other, dont tweet it.
